John Summit’s Experts Only Festival Returns to Randall’s Island

John Summit’s Experts Only Festival returned to Randall’s Island this weekend with three stages, more than 25 electronic acts and another crowd expected to top 50,000 across two days, turning the DJ’s record-label identity into one of New York’s largest dance-music events.

The second edition runs September 19th and 20th from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day, with Summit performing both nights. Saturday centers on an extended John Summit set, while Sunday’s closing stretch includes GRiZ and SUBJOHNICS, Summit’s back-to-back project with Subtronics.

Two-day passes and Saturday single-day tickets sold out before the weekend, while only limited Sunday inventory remained, the festival site shows. Organizers said before gates opened that the event was preparing for more than 50,000 attendees across the weekend.

That figure is a projection rather than a final 2026 attendance count. The scale is still significant for a festival whose sold-out 2025 debut brought more than 50,000 people to the same island.

Experts Only Grew to Three Stages

Year two is physically larger than the original festival concept.

Experts Only expanded to three stages with separate musical and visual identities rather than simply adding more DJs to one enormous main stage. Programming moves between house, techno, bass music and adjacent electronic styles throughout the weekend.

Saturday puts Summit on the main stage from 7:30 p.m. through 10 p.m. for an extended closing set. Earlier programming includes Max Styler b2b Adam Ten, while Levity, LYNY and Taiki Nulight appear elsewhere across the grounds.

Sunday pushes further into collaborative programming. Innellea and Korolova share a back-to-back set, while Will Clarke, Devault, Partiboi69 and others lead into the weekend’s most obvious collision between Summit’s house world and heavier bass music.

The official festival lineup also includes GRiZ and SUBJOHNICS alongside Prospa, Jackie Hollander, OMRI., Airrica and Dreya V.

That breadth is important to the Experts Only identity. Summit remains closely associated with house music, but his festival is not being programmed as two days of artists reproducing his own sound.

SUBJOHNICS Turns a B2B Into an Event

Sunday’s SUBJOHNICS set gives the weekend its most unusual headline collaboration.

The project pairs Summit with Subtronics, whose bass-heavy approach occupies a substantially different part of electronic music. Rather than presenting one artist as a conventional guest during the other’s set, SUBJOHNICS has developed as a shared back-to-back identity built around the contrast between their catalogs and DJ styles.

Its inclusion makes particular sense inside a festival Summit curates. A conventional bill could simply place the two artists in separate slots. Experts Only can make the collision itself part of the programming.

Back-to-back performances have been central to the festival from the beginning. Its 2025 debut included Kaskade with Cassian and Green Velvet with Layton Giordani, while the 2026 edition again treats collaborative sets as more than brief novelties.

EDM.com highlighted SUBJOHNICS when the expanded lineup arrived, alongside Max Styler b2b Adam Ten and Innellea b2b Korolova.

Subtronics also widens the weekend’s musical reach without requiring Experts Only to abandon its center. His audience brings a major bass-music contingent into a festival still anchored by Summit’s own sets and a large house and techno roster.

CTRL ESCAPE Gives Summit New Festival Material

This year’s Experts Only arrives during a different album cycle from the festival’s 2025 debut.

Summit released his second album, CTRL ESCAPE, on April 15th through Experts Only and Darkroom Records. The 13-track project moves beyond straightforward festival house through collaborations spanning several corners of electronic and pop music.

Detailed Qobuz credits show Devault and Julia Church on “SHADES OF BLUE,” Rohaan on “SATA,” Nija on “MESS W/ ME,” Feid on “CHICA 305,” and The Chainsmokers with Ilsey on “ALL THE TIME.”

Several of those connections feed directly back into the festival. Devault and Rohaan are both on the Experts Only lineup, allowing Summit’s recorded work and curated live world to overlap without turning the weekend into a front-to-back presentation of the album.

The record itself gives him more terrain to cover. “SATA” connects Summit with Rohaan’s drum-and-bass instincts, “CHICA 305” brings Feid into a different rhythmic setting, and “SHADES OF BLUE” pairs Julia Church’s vocal with production shared by Summit and Devault.

Summit has already treated the album as DJ material rather than something fixed in its studio sequence. An Experts Only Radio mix in April ran through all 13 tracks as a continuous set.

Randall’s Island gives those records a much larger testing ground.

New York Had Room for Another Dance Festival

Experts Only entered a New York electronic-festival market that had changed dramatically.

Randall’s Island was previously associated with Electric Zoo, whose troubled 2023 edition included a canceled opening day and capacity problems. The festival subsequently disappeared from New York’s calendar, leaving the city without the large annual electronic event that had occupied the island for years.

Summit’s team saw an opening.

“There wasn’t a clear, dominant festival in the New York market,” manager Holt Harmon told Pollstar after the first Experts Only Festival. Harmon said the team initially hoped another event would emerge before realizing they could help build one themselves.

The inaugural edition arrived on Randall’s Island in September 2025 and drew more than 50,000 people across two days. Summit headlined twice, with Kaskade b2b Cassian, Green Velvet b2b Layton Giordani, LP Giobbi, DJ Seinfeld and Pete Tong among the surrounding acts.

That turnout gave the second edition something the first did not have: proof that Experts Only could sell at New York festival scale.

Saturday GA tickets for 2026 sold out before festival weekend, while two-day passes also disappeared from the available inventory. Final attendance for the current edition has not yet been announced.

Experts Only Grows Through Live Event Partners

The business story around Experts Only is more interesting than the idea of an artist simply cutting traditional promoters out of the equation.

Summit personally curates the festival and has built his artist identity around the Experts Only name, which also operates as his record label. His current album carries an Experts Only/Darkroom Records credit, while his official store extends the branding into merchandise and physical music.

The Randall’s Island festival, however, is a partnership rather than a self-produced operation.

Medium Rare, Relentless Beats and EMW produce the event with Summit’s team. Pollstar identified the three partners when the 2026 edition was announced.

That structure offers a more practical version of artist-led expansion. Summit does not need to own staging, logistics, security, ticketing and every other piece of festival infrastructure to retain control over the name, lineup and musical direction.

Experts Only can operate simultaneously as a record-label identity, radio series, merchandise line and festival while experienced event companies handle major pieces of the live operation.

Commercial partners add another layer. Cash App, Don Julio and GHOST Energy are among the brands attached to this year’s event, extending the festival economy beyond tickets, VIP upgrades, merchandise and recorded music.

Randall’s Island Became Part of the Production

The second-year expansion is not limited to another row of names on the lineup poster.

Organizers introduced three stage environments with separate visual identities, including Mirror Field, as part of an effort to make movement around Randall’s Island feel like moving between distinct parts of the festival rather than simply changing stages.

Local coverage from amNewYork highlighted the expanded stage concepts and new fan experiences as the second edition took shape.

The island gives Summit room that a conventional arena date does not. Multiple stages can run simultaneously, visual installations can become part of the grounds, and different electronic subgenres can occupy their own spaces before the audience reconvenes around the larger closing sets.

That difference becomes clearer as Summit’s regular touring moves indoors. His current schedule launches the CTRL ESCAPE arena tour in October, including dates in Montreal, Toronto and Boston.

The two formats sell different things. An arena date sells John Summit as the headlining artist. Randall’s Island sells an entire environment curated under the Experts Only name.

Experts Only Is Becoming Bigger Than a Label

The second Randall’s Island weekend makes the scale of that distinction difficult to miss.

Experts Only began as a music imprint closely connected to Summit’s releases and DJ identity. It now sits on an album, merchandise, a radio show and a festival capable of moving tens of thousands of tickets in New York.

The current ticket page shows two-day passes and Saturday single-day tickets sold out, with limited Sunday inventory remaining as the second day unfolds.

None of that makes Summit an independent festival promoter operating without outside infrastructure. Medium Rare, Relentless Beats and EMW remain central live-event partners, while Darkroom works alongside Experts Only on the recorded-music side.

What Summit increasingly controls is the connective tissue.

The same name can introduce a Devault release, sit on CTRL ESCAPE, appear on merchandise, frame a DJ mix and bring more than two dozen electronic artists to Randall’s Island.

That creates something more durable than another headline booking. Summit can continue playing other promoters’ clubs, arenas and festivals while building one destination where the lineup, presentation and brand all lead back to his own musical world.

Experts Only is no longer just the name attached to John Summit’s records.

On Randall’s Island, it has become the thing people are buying a ticket to.
