Soccer Mommy has returned with “Rings of Saturn,” Sophie Allison’s first original song since 2024’s Evergreen, pairing fuzzy guitars and a searching vocal with an idea that began while she was looking through a telescope in her backyard.
Released September 17, the single was produced by Elliott Kozel, whose credits include work with Rosalía and Björk, and arrives with a dreamlike video directed by Suji Park. Pitchfork identifies “Rings of Saturn” as Allison’s first new song in two years, putting fresh Soccer Mommy material into the world just before a co-headlining tour with Snail Mail begins September 30.
No new album has been announced with the single. For now, “Rings of Saturn” stands on its own as Allison’s first clear move beyond Evergreen, with a new producer behind the boards and a song that has already started making its way into her live set.
“Rings of Saturn” Started With a Telescope in the Backyard
The song’s celestial imagery came from a real habit Allison developed during a difficult period. She would take a telescope outside and look at the moon and planets, using the scale of what she was seeing to create some distance from whatever felt overwhelming closer to home.
Stereogum published Allison’s explanation of the song, in which she described feeling small in comparison with what she could see through the telescope. Rather than making her problems feel insignificant in a dismissive way, that change in scale offered some relief.
“Rings of Saturn” carries that tension into the music. Allison’s voice stays close and clear while fuzzy guitar chords expand around the chorus, giving the track more weight without turning its astronomical imagery into oversized space-rock theatrics.
The contrast works particularly well because the writing remains grounded. Saturn may provide the title, but the emotional center is recognizably human: feeling lost, looking for perspective and finding temporary comfort in something too large to control.

Elliott Kozel Gives Soccer Mommy a New Production Partner
One of the more interesting names in the credits is Elliott Kozel, who produced “Rings of Saturn.”
Kozel has worked with artists including Rosalía and Björk, making him a less obvious match for a songwriter whose catalog has largely lived around indie rock, alternative guitar music and singer-songwriter traditions. The collaboration does not radically remake Soccer Mommy, but it introduces a different production relationship as Allison moves beyond her last album.
The guitars remain recognizable, particularly as the chorus grows heavier, while the production leaves enough space around Allison’s vocal to keep the song from becoming dense simply for the sake of impact. It sounds connected to the Soccer Mommy catalog without feeling like an unused piece of Evergreen.
The visual follows a similarly restrained path. Directed by Suji Park, the “Rings of Saturn” video leans into hazy, celestial imagery rather than turning the title into a literal tour of the solar system. Alternative Press highlights both Kozel’s production and Park’s video as part of the new release.
Together, the new collaborators give Allison room to change the atmosphere around her songwriting without abandoning the guitar-driven language that has defined Soccer Mommy.
The Song Is Already Finding Its Way Into Soccer Mommy’s Live Set
September 17 may be the official release date, but “Rings of Saturn” had already surfaced in front of audiences.
Soccer Mommy played the song during recent California performances, including a September 8 appearance at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, where publicly documented set lists identify it as the song’s live debut. It returned the following night in Berkeley during Allison’s opening set at the William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre.
Those early performances now lead directly into a larger run. Soccer Mommy begins a co-headlining tour with Snail Mail, Lindsey Jordan’s project, on September 30 in Charlotte.
The pairing brings together two songwriters who emerged during the same late-2010s indie-rock moment and have frequently occupied neighboring territory without making particularly interchangeable music. Allison’s writing often turns inward through melodic guitar arrangements, while Jordan has developed her own sharper and sometimes more volatile version of guitar pop.
FLOOD reports that the Soccer Mommy and Snail Mail tour runs through October, with Brennan Wedl and Scarlet Rae joining different portions of the schedule.

The timing gives “Rings of Saturn” an immediate life beyond streaming. Instead of releasing the track months before its first substantial live run, Allison will be able to fold it into shows almost immediately while it is still new to most listeners.
No New Soccer Mommy Album Has Been Announced Yet
Allison’s last full-length Soccer Mommy record, Evergreen, arrived in 2024. She followed it in 2025 with Evergreen (Stripped), which revisited songs from the album in more pared-back arrangements rather than beginning another cycle of original material.
That makes “Rings of Saturn” the first obvious step beyond that period. Paste identifies it as Soccer Mommy’s first new single since Evergreen, but the release does not come with confirmation of a fifth studio album.
There is currently no announced album title, track list or release date. Calling “Rings of Saturn” the lead single from a forthcoming LP would therefore go beyond what Allison has actually revealed.
What is confirmed is more limited: Soccer Mommy has a new original song, Kozel has entered the project as a production collaborator, Park has directed its first visual, and the track is already appearing onstage ahead of the Snail Mail tour.
That tour begins September 30 in Charlotte. “Rings of Saturn” and its Suji Park-directed video are out now, with the official Soccer Mommy site featuring the new release.
