Death Cab for Cutie Announce 2027 Tour

Death Cab for Cutie are extending the I Built You a Tower era into 2027 with a new North American tour, adding a spring run that includes two nights each in Atlanta and Boston and an April stop at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

The newly announced dates begin March 11 in Nashville and continue through April 16 in Asheville, North Carolina, with Swapmeet supporting the mainland run. A January 19 performance at Honolulu’s Blaisdell Arena comes first, giving the band an earlier start to its 2027 schedule.

The September 17 announcement also arrived with a new animated video for “Stone Over Water,” keeping the current album at the center of the story. Death Cab for Cutie’s official site is carrying the expanding tour schedule alongside I Built You a Tower, which the band released earlier this year.

Death Cab Add a 2027 North American Run

After the January show in Honolulu, Death Cab will return to the road in March for a route through the Southeast, Texas, Pennsylvania and Michigan before heading into Canada and the Northeast.

Several stops stand out without needing to reproduce the entire itinerary. Atlanta gets consecutive nights at The Eastern on March 14 and 15, while Boston receives two shows at MGM Music Hall at Fenway on April 7 and 8. The band reaches Radio City Music Hall in New York on April 13 before closing the announced run three days later at ExploreAsheville.com Arena.

Consequence reports 23 dates across Death Cab’s current 2027 itinerary, including the Honolulu performance and the newly added spring shows.

  • January 19: Honolulu, HI — Blaisdell Arena
  • March 11: Nashville, TN — The Truth
  • March 14-15: Atlanta, GA — The Eastern
  • April 7-8: Boston, MA — MGM Music Hall at Fenway
  • April 13: New York, NY — Radio City Music Hall
  • April 16: Asheville, NC — ExploreAsheville.com Arena

Austin is also on the schedule for March 23, although a venue had not been announced with the initial dates.

Artist presales begin September 23 at 10 a.m. local time, followed by local presales September 24. General ticket sales open September 25 at 10 a.m. local time. The band’s official tour page has the complete current itinerary and ticket information.

“Stone Over Water” Gets a New Animated Video

The tour news came with something for listeners who are not shopping for concert tickets: a new animated video for “Stone Over Water,” one of the songs from I Built You a Tower.

Musician and animator Sean Solomon created the visual. Pitchfork reports that Solomon approached the video around ideas of connection and empathy, giving the song a visual treatment several months after its original release.

“Stone Over Water” had already become part of the album rollout before the animation arrived. Death Cab released the track in June and performed it on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but the new video gives the song another moment as the band begins shifting attention toward next year’s touring schedule.

That pairing makes the announcement more interesting than a routine batch of concert dates. Death Cab could easily sell a 2027 tour on the depth of a catalog that stretches back nearly three decades. Instead, the band attached the new dates to a song from the record it is still actively promoting.

The New Tour Extends the I Built You a Tower Era

I Built You a Tower arrived in June as Death Cab for Cutie’s 11th studio album and the band’s first after leaving Atlantic Records, ending a major-label relationship that lasted roughly two decades.

The record was released through ANTI-, placing Death Cab back in an independent-label environment for a new chapter of its career. The official Death Cab store offers I Built You a Tower on vinyl, CD and cassette in addition to its digital availability.

The album cycle began in March with “Riptides,” followed by “Punching the Flowers” in April and “Stone Over Water” in June. Those releases returned the focus to new Death Cab material after a touring period in which the band spent considerable time revisiting one of its most important earlier records.

Death Cab and the Postal Service had previously mounted an extensive joint anniversary tour built around 2003’s Transatlanticism and Give Up, with Ben Gibbard performing with both groups each night. The concept turned two albums from the same year into a large-scale live event and eventually expanded well beyond its original run.

I Built You a Tower shifted that attention back toward the present. The 2027 dates suggest Death Cab intends to give the record a substantially longer life onstage rather than allowing its touring cycle to wind down at the end of 2026.

The Spring Shows Follow an International Run

North America is only one part of Death Cab’s current touring calendar.

The band has international performances scheduled before the spring run, including dates in the United Kingdom and Europe followed by shows in Japan and Australia. A Beyond Hunger benefit performance is also scheduled for November 21 in Chicago.

Different support acts appear across those earlier dates, while Swapmeet will join Death Cab for the newly announced mainland North American leg.

The spring itinerary also moves through a broad mix of rooms rather than following a single touring format. Theater dates sit beside amphitheaters and larger venues, with consecutive nights in Atlanta and Boston allowing the band to stay in those markets longer without immediately jumping to substantially larger spaces.

The New York stop is among the most prominent additions. Radio City Music Hall puts the I Built You a Tower tour inside one of the country’s most recognizable theaters on April 13, just three days before the announced North American finale in Asheville.

Exactly how heavily the new album will figure into the 2027 set lists has not been announced. Death Cab also has not indicated whether additional North American dates will follow the April 16 show.

For now, the next phase begins with Honolulu on January 19 before the main run opens March 11 in Nashville. Presales for the newly announced dates start September 23, with general sales beginning September 25 through the official Death Cab for Cutie tour page.
