Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky have reportedly named their first child Rose Bean Polansky, with newly surfaced birth-certificate details showing their daughter was born June 9 in Los Angeles.
The certificate, obtained by TMZ, lists Rose’s birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Gaga and Polansky have not publicly explained their daughter’s name, but both “Rose” and “Bean” have notable connections to Gaga’s musical history.
A source told People that Rose was inspired by “La Vie en Rose,” the Édith Piaf standard Gaga performed in A Star Is Born. The middle name Bean is reportedly connected to singer and LGBTQ+ activist Carl Bean, whose disco recording “I Was Born This Way” was one of the inspirations Gaga has cited for her own “Born This Way.”
The connections give the name an unusually deep musical backstory, reaching from a French standard that helped shape Gaga’s film career to a queer disco record released more than three decades before one of her defining pop anthems.
“Rose” Echoes “La Vie en Rose”
The clearest musical connection in Rose Bean’s name leads back to “La Vie en Rose,” Édith Piaf’s signature song and a piece of music that became unusually important in Gaga’s own career.
Gaga famously performs the standard as Ally in 2018’s A Star Is Born. In the film, Jackson Maine, played by Bradley Cooper, watches Ally perform it in a drag bar, creating one of the first significant encounters between the two characters.
But Gaga’s relationship with the song predates the movie. She had already been performing “La Vie en Rose” live, and one particular performance played a role in how she ended up in A Star Is Born at all.
At a 2016 benefit for the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, Gaga performed the song with Cooper in attendance. He later recalled being struck by the performance while developing the film. The connection eventually became part of the story surrounding her casting.
Gaga made the association permanent after the movie. In 2019, she unveiled a long rose tattoo running down her spine with the words “la vie en rose” written alongside the stem. The tattoo was a tribute to the song and A Star Is Born, Allure reported at the time.
That history gives “Rose” a clear place within Gaga’s visual and musical world. Still, the distinction between documented history and the couple’s intentions matters: Gaga and Polansky themselves have not publicly said why they chose the name.
“Bean” Points to Carl Bean
Rose’s middle name reaches toward a less widely known piece of music history.
Carl Bean was a gospel and disco singer, minister and LGBTQ+ activist whose 1977 Motown recording “I Was Born This Way” became an early declaration of gay identity on the dance floor.
The song itself predates Bean’s version. Chris Spierer and Bunny Jones wrote “I Was Born This Way,” and Valentino first recorded it in 1975. Bean’s later version, however, became particularly associated with queer liberation and eventually found another generation of listeners through its connection to Gaga.
That connection is documented in Gaga’s own words. In a 2011 interview with Howard Stern, she identified Bean and “I Was Born This Way” as one of the inspirations she encountered while developing her own song. An archival NPR report revisiting the history includes Gaga discussing Bean’s recording and the impression it made on her.
Gaga’s “Born This Way” and Bean’s “I Was Born This Way” are separate compositions. Gaga did not cover Bean’s song, and Bean did not write hers. Their connection lies in the earlier record’s message and Gaga’s acknowledgment of its influence.
When Bean died in 2021, Gaga again publicly recognized him as part of the inspiration behind her work. His legacy extended well beyond the recording studio: he founded the Unity Fellowship Church and the Minority AIDS Project, becoming an important figure in Black LGBTQ+ activism.
Bean’s life and the continuing influence of his disco recording are also the subject of the documentary I Was Born This Way. Frameline, which screened the film in 2025, describes Gaga’s later work as helping bring renewed attention to Bean’s earlier anthem.
A source connected Rose’s middle name directly to Bean in current reporting, according to People. Gaga and Polansky have not personally confirmed that explanation.

The new reporting also fills in details that Gaga and Polansky had kept private for months.

News that Gaga had become a mother emerged publicly in September after she and Polansky were seen with a baby in Northern California. That prompted speculation that their child might have been born there, but the birth record places Rose’s birth in Los Angeles.
The San Francisco Chronicle noted the distinction after the family was photographed in the Bay Area, adding a regional detail to a story that initially surfaced through those Northern California sightings.
Gaga and Polansky have otherwise kept their daughter largely outside the public eye. That privacy is consistent with how little they disclosed during the months immediately following her birth.
Current reports establish Rose’s name and birth details through the reported certificate and additional sourcing, but Gaga and Polansky have not issued their own public statement confirming or elaborating on those details.
Polansky Is Part of Gaga’s Music Too
The musical connections surrounding Rose’s name are especially fitting at a point when Polansky himself has become increasingly involved in Gaga’s creative work.
The couple began dating around the end of 2019 and made their relationship public in early 2020. They became engaged in 2024, but their partnership has not remained entirely separate from Gaga’s recording career.
Polansky contributed to 2025’s Mayhem, receiving songwriting and executive-production credits on the album. The record marked a major return to dark, maximalist pop after a period in which Gaga’s output had moved between jazz, film work and the Joker: Folie à Deux companion album Harlequin.

Gaga completed her recent touring commitments in spring 2026 before stepping away from the public eye for much of the summer. A source told People that the couple had taken time away from work to focus on their daughter.
That timing means Rose arrived after an especially active stretch of Gaga’s career but during a deliberately quieter period in her public schedule.

The musical connections behind Rose Bean are compelling, but the line between what has been reported and what Gaga has personally confirmed remains important.

Billboard also connected the reported name with “La Vie en Rose” and Carl Bean while noting that Gaga’s representatives had been contacted about the news.
That leaves an unusually evocative set of musical connections without requiring an assumption about the couple’s private reasoning. “Rose” belongs to a song that helped connect Gaga to one of the biggest film roles of her career. “Bean” shares a name with an artist and activist Gaga herself has credited as an inspiration behind one of her defining records.
For now, the confirmed new information remains more straightforward: Gaga and Polansky’s daughter is reportedly named Rose Bean Polansky and was born June 9 in Los Angeles. The couple has not publicly explained the name.
