Miley is releasing her 10th studio album, Bass Persuades, on September 18, but she is already thinking about what happens when the record reaches the stage. In a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the singer described her two upcoming Hollywood Bowl concerts as an “ultimate dress rehearsal” for a potential residency.
The October 16 and 18 performances will be Miley’s first shows at the Hollywood Bowl and her most substantial announced concerts surrounding the new album. Rather than treating them as the beginning of another conventional tour, she is using the Los Angeles dates to test a model in which audiences travel to her.
There appears to be plenty of interest. People reports that nearly 1.5 million fans entered the presale queue for the Hollywood Bowl shows, a figure Miley cited while discussing why a residency suddenly feels possible. It does not represent tickets sold, but the demand is striking for an engagement consisting of only two nights.
The Hollywood Bowl Shows Are an “Ultimate Dress Rehearsal”
Miley has been unusually selective about touring in recent years compared with the scale of her recorded-music career. Her latest comments suggest that selectivity is becoming part of the design rather than something she eventually intends to abandon.
Speaking with Lowe ahead of Bass Persuades, Miley said the Hollywood Bowl engagement will allow her to experiment with the idea of staying in one place while still building a major live production. The venue is close enough to home that she can preserve more of her normal routine, and it carries personal significance because she has attended concerts there as a fan without previously headlining it herself.
Ticketmaster confirms the October 16 and 18 performances, both scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Model/Actriz will join Miley for the engagement.
A residency would reverse one of the basic assumptions of traditional touring. Instead of moving the production and performer from arena to arena while meeting a different local audience every night, the artist stays put and asks listeners to travel.
That arrangement can offer more control over staging, scheduling and daily life, but it only works when enough people are willing to make the trip. The Hollywood Bowl shows give Miley a way to test that equation without announcing a months-long residency before she knows whether the format suits her.
The 1.5 million presale figure therefore matters less as a conventional sales statistic than as evidence of potential destination demand. The Bowl can accommodate only a small fraction of the people who reportedly entered the queue.
Bass Persuades Pulls Model/Actriz Into Miley’s Pop World
The residency conversation arrives alongside a record that is already making some unexpected musical connections.
Bass Persuades is due September 18 through Atlantic Records, with 10 tracks on its standard physical edition. Model/Actriz appear on “Different Religion,” while Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow is featured on “Neon Signs.”
The Model/Actriz collaboration is particularly notable. The New York band comes from a much harsher corner of contemporary music, combining noise rock, post-punk and dance-floor intensity in a way that sits well outside conventional mainstream pop. Having the group appear both on the album and at the Hollywood Bowl suggests the connection extends beyond a one-off feature.
The album’s title track provides the clearest musical preview of the project. Rolling Stone Canada describes “Bass Persuades” as a propulsive dance-pop track with Eighties-inspired synths, built around the question of what happens when the bass is supposed to move people but “the kids don’t wanna dance.”
The single arrived September 4 with a video directed by Mert Alas. Its production puts physical movement at the center of the song without relying on the oversized power-ballad dynamics that have defined some of Miley’s biggest vocal performances. The pulse does more of the work.
That makes the album title particularly effective. “Bass Persuades” describes music almost as a physical argument: the low end keeps pushing until the body gives in.
The official Miley store confirms the album’s 10-song physical edition, but the relatively small number of guest credits keeps the focus tight. Model/Actriz and Wyatt stand out precisely because the record is not crowded with features.
A New Label and a Shorter Name Mark This Album Cycle
Bass Persuades also arrives with two quieter changes around the music itself.
Miley Cyrus is now being presented professionally simply as Miley. Pitchfork reported the mononym when the album was announced on September 1, alongside news that the record would follow 2025’s Something Beautiful.
The shortened name does not come with a fictional alter ego or an attempt to erase the catalog attached to Miley Cyrus. Instead, it lands during a broader transition that also includes her move to Atlantic Records after her previous run with Columbia.
The timing is unusually quick. Something Beautiful arrived only last year and was later expanded with a deluxe edition featuring David Byrne and Lindsey Buckingham. Miley has therefore continued recording and releasing music at a fast pace even while remaining reluctant to return to the traditional cycle of a major album followed by months of touring.
That distinction helps put the Hollywood Bowl experiment in context. She is not withdrawing from music or slowing the recording side of her career. She is reconsidering what the live component needs to look like.
The New Album Gets Just Two Major Live Shows for Now
The Hollywood Bowl dates are being billed as Miley: Bass Persuades – Live at the Hollywood Bowl, tying the concerts directly to the new record rather than presenting them as general career-spanning appearances.
Live Nation lists Model/Actriz alongside Miley for the October 16 show, bringing one of the album’s collaborators into its first major live presentation.
The timing also gives Bass Persuades nearly a month to exist as a record before Miley performs the Hollywood Bowl dates. Listeners will have time to become familiar with the songs before the album moves into a large-scale concert setting.
For an artist who could theoretically attach a sprawling arena itinerary to a new album, two destination-style performances are a strikingly concentrated approach. There is currently no corresponding North American tour carrying Bass Persuades from city to city.
That puts more creative weight on the Bowl engagement. If Miley is genuinely using the concerts as a residency experiment, the shows need to answer questions that ordinary album-release performances do not: whether she enjoys staying with one production in one place, whether the format gives her enough flexibility and whether the extraordinary initial ticket demand translates into a sustainable model.
It also gives Model/Actriz an unusual position in the rollout. The band is not simply appearing on “Different Religion” and disappearing back into the credits. Its members will be part of the live environment Miley is using to introduce this album on a larger scale.
No Miley Residency Has Been Announced Yet
For all the attention around Miley’s comments, there is an important distinction between considering a residency and announcing one.
No residency venue, city, schedule or run of dates has been confirmed. The Hollywood Bowl concerts remain two standalone performances tied to Bass Persuades, and Miley’s “dress rehearsal” description frames them as an experiment rather than the opening nights of a residency that already exists.
That uncertainty is part of what makes the October shows interesting. They sit somewhere between conventional album concerts and a possible blueprint for a different kind of live career.
Miley has spoken before about the demands of large-scale touring, so the idea of building a destination performance offers a practical alternative. It would allow her to continue treating live music as a major production without automatically committing to moving that production across dozens of cities.
Whether she ultimately chooses that route remains unresolved.
What is confirmed comes first: Bass Persuades arrives September 18, followed by the Hollywood Bowl performances October 16 and 18. Miley’s official tour page currently lists the Los Angeles engagement, but no residency dates appear there.
If the Bowl really is the dress rehearsal, the audience response may help determine whether Miley’s next major live chapter involves another tour at all.
