Why She’s About to Pop: At the tender age of 4, Lady Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, learned how to play the piano by ear. By age 14, she cultivated her talent to perform in front of audiences in New York City venues. Three years later, the music prodigy gained early admission into the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. By the time she turned 20, Lady Gaga had developed a successful career penning songs for artists such as the Pussycat Dolls. And now, at age 22, this left-of-center electropop queen has infiltrated the New York City club scene with her infectious single, ‘Just Dance.’ Lady Gaga will be performing on the results show of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ on July 31 at 9 PM ET on FOX.

Hails From: Santa Barbara, Calif.
For Fans Of: Gwen Stefani and Alanis Morissette
Why She’s About to Pop: This 23-year-old’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics are what probably got the likes of Perez Hilton to call her “one of the breakout stars of the summer.” While the daughter of two pastors was brought up singing gospel, Katy credits Queen with inspiring her own musical pursuits. Perry worked with a slew of top-notch pop producers to create her debut album, including Glen Ballard, Max Martin and Butch Walker. The result is an explosion of groovy beats and tart lyrics that take a concentrated effort to forget. In addition to her increasing modeling and acting gigs (she appeared on ‘The Young and Restless’), Perry will be hitting the road this summer on the entirety of the Vans Warped Tour.

The Gabe Dixon Band, ‘Till You’re Gone’ — New Song
August 31, 2008
Filed under: Pop, Songs, New Music
Artist: The Gabe Dixon Band
Song: ‘Till You’re Gone’
Why You Should Listen: Boasting praise from fellow musicians Sara Bareilles and Jamie Cullum, and compared to the likes of respected piano-rockers Elton John and Ben Folds, this classic pop-rock influenced trio has played together the late 90s. Dixon was offered a spot playing keys on a Paul McCartney tour and respectfully turned him down to rock out with his friends, and they’re now releasing their self-titled record on August 26.

Jesse McCartney vs. Leona Lewis in ‘Bleeding Love’ Battle
August 28, 2008
The summer hit ‘Bleeding Love’ is being made hugely popular by new-comer Leona Lewis, though it was actually penned by fellow pop-stars Jesse McCartney and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic.
McCartney not only co-wrote the tune, but also recorded his own version, and the audio has recently been circulating around the web. Sans the slick pop production and club-ready beats of Lewis’ take, his original recording has a slow, stripped-down R&B vibe. Would McCartney’s version of ‘Bleeding Love’ be just as much of a smash on the charts as Leona Lewis’ take on it?
