Why She’s About to Pop: When her 7-year-old peers were playing with dolls and trucks, Lesley Roy received her first guitar and began penning her own songs. Eight years later, she recorded her first demos and started to shape her pop-driven rock sound. Roy was eventually signed to Religion Music in Ireland, but proved to be such a unique talent that Jive Records took interest in backing her debut solo album. Now at the landmark age of 21, Roy has engaged listeners on both sides of the Atlantic with her single, ‘I’m Gone, I’m Going,’ off her Max Martin-produced record ‘Unbeautiful.’ You can catch Lesley Roy on tour in choose U.S. cities from September 16-28.

What inspired the songs on your record?

I was inspired to write the songs on my record for many different reasons. I wanted to write about all different aspects of relationships, falling in and out of love, having a conflicting relationship with a best friend, dealing with the struggles in a family and also the loss of somebody close.

What’s your favorite song on the record?

My favorite song on the record is ‘Thinking Out Loud.’

What are the most played songs on your iPod?

The most played songs on my iPod right now is the entire ‘I’ve Been Dying to State This to You’ album by The Sounds, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Greatest Hits’ and John Mayer.
