Kelly Osbourne propositioned by Axl Rose
August 31, 2008

Axl Rose reportedly came on strong to Kelly Osbourne at a party. Designer Richie Rich watched the whole thing go down and couldn’t believe the crap coming out of the 46-year-old singer’s mouth, according to OK! Magazine:
“He was really weird with her,” said the Heatherette fashionista at a celebration for the launch of the new Tide and Downy Total Care washing liquid. “He kept leering at her and saying, “I want to f*** you!”
Discuss: Summer Movie Season 2008 — The Big Recap

It’s difficult (and a tiny silly) to try and judge an entire quarter-year’s movies in one lump sum — but that’s what we seem to do at the end of every Summer Motion picture Season. That’s when all our excitement, expectations, and final reactions come colliding together and we find ourselves thinking: “Was I actually looking forward to that piece of crap for four months?” But to me, each summer is like a walk through a carnival: Some of the attractions dazzle me, others simply don’t interest me, and a few are just a waste of tickets. But once early May rolls around, I’m always ready for another trip to the Hollywood Motion picture Carnival. (It’s where you find all the tentpoles!)
Obama’s speech shatters Nielsen ratings

The reviews from the political speaking heads — right and left — have been mostly positive. The visuals were spectacular and riveting. History was made at Mile High Stadium in Denver last night when Senator Barack Obama accepted the nomination of the Democratic party as the first African-American presidential candidate. There were 80,000 people packed in the stadium, and now Nielsen has determined that 38 million people tuned in to watch on Television.
How impressive is that number? It’s more than the opening ceremonies from the Beijing Olympics. It’s also more than the 2008 Oscars and the finale of Fox’s American Idol.
No ‘Preacher’ for HBO — Who Will Keep the Faith?

It really seemed like we were finally going to get Garth Ennis’ Preacher this time — the dark, funny, and controversial comic book series seemed perfect for HBO. Isn’t that what they do, after all?
Apparently not. Mark Steven Johnson told Comics Continuum that they’ve passed on the series. “We were budgeting and everything and it was getting really close to going. But the new head of HBO felt it was just too dark and too violent and too controversial. Which, of course, is kind of the point! It was a very faithful adaptation of the first few books, almost word for word. They offered me the chance to redevelop it but I refused. I’ve learned my lesson on that front and I won’t do it again. So I’m afraid it’s dead at HBO.”

Why You Should Listen: Boasting praise from fellow musicians Sara Bareilles and Jamie Cullum, and compared to the likes of respected piano-rockers Elton John and Ben Folds, this classic pop-rock influenced trio has played together the late 90s. Dixon was offered a spot playing keys on a Paul McCartney tour and respectfully turned him down to rock out with his friends, and they’re now releasing their self-titled record on August 26.

Comic Creators Respond to Warner Bros’ ‘Dark Superman’ Idea

It seems the entire comic book and film world “misread” Warner Bros’ announcement that they were angling to make Superman’s reboot a gloomier one. No one seems to have read the original article slowly enough — not even MTV, Kevin Smith, Christopher Golden, Jeph Loeb, Steven T. Seagle, or Mark Waid.
The wonderful geeks over on MTV’s Splash Page chased down all the above, and asked them what they thought about the studio’s latest plans for the Man of Steel. The funniest and most extreme reaction isn’t Smith’s, it’s Golden’s! “How stupid is that? That announcement made my head spin . . . Making a dark and gritty Superman motion picture because Dark Knight made a ton of money is incredibly stupid.” Oddly, Smith is actually more tempered in his comments, and that he was all for a reboot. “You always have to always keep Superman very distinct from Batman … Superman is about the hope in people, the good in people, whereas Batman is about the more driven, hungry for justice angry side of us. [So] I don’t know if doing a dark Superman is the approach.”
Lindsay Lohan & Samantha Ronson blog attack Michael Lohan
August 30, 2008

Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson both took to their celebrity blogs after Michael Lohan publicly called Samantha a “drug” for Lindsay and claimed she would out Lindsay in a tell-all book. Lindsay became so incensed she churned out the following hyphen-laden diatribe on MySpace:
If you’ve something to say to me, say it to my face- that’s what i have believed my whole life- don’t be a coward and say it to others first, let alone all the media in the world- i think we know where the rest of this blog is going…
If you guessed it had to do with my father- then you guessed right! It really hurts, because i have tried- after all that my mom and siblings have gone through, i really tried to make things work- For the hope of having a father again-wanting things to change- even though people have stated, some people will forever remain the same.
Having stated that- the people were right, and he’s yet to change- but this time, without his daughter by his side- He has become a public embaressment and a bully- To my family, my co-workers, my friends, and a girl that means the world to me (its obvious who that is).
He has no idea what is going on in my life because i have chosen not to involve him in it- His recent attack on my life and my loved ones is simply for an ADDICTION THAT HE HAS- FAME. Why he feels the need to comment on anything in my life that i might want to keep private, is beyond comprehension- If he really cared about me and my life, then he would learn to respect my wishes by staying out of it.
Samantha has not and would never sell me out. Nor has my mother, who is wonderful.
This further proves that any information that my father has about me or the people in my life is world wide web based- and about as accurate as a page six item.
I’m not going to engage any further, though i probably could go on…
I’ve said enough, i have a therapist, and it isn’t the the camera man at x17.
What shows had the best seasons of the past 20 years?

August has been a slow month for these “Best XXXX of All-Time” and “Worst XXXX Sitcoms of the Decade” lists, but here’s an interesting one: the 20 ideal seasons of the last 20 years.
It’s an interesting subject for a list because Television fans can often agree on what shows are generally good or bad, and we have the ability to generally agree that even the ideal shows have bad seasons if they run long enough. But if you consider the shows that you’ve watched over the past 20 years (and watched all of the seasons, not just episodes here and there), what seasons stand out to you? Off the top of my head, before I even read the article, I thought of either season 2 or season 3 of The West Wing (the list writer picks season 2) and I would obviously pick a season of The X-Files or The Simpsons, though it would be hard to pick one season (he picks season 4 of the former and season 4 of the latter). Also on the list: season 2 of Buffy and season 1 of Deadwood. The first seasons of Friday Night Lights and Firefly? Really?
‘Aeon Flux’ Scribes Sign for ‘The Boys’

I can’t help but feel bad for Garth Ennis because it seems like lately, the guy can’t catch a break. It was bad enough that the long-awaited adaption of his controversial series Preacher was shelved at HBO; but this is just adding insult to injury. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Columbia Pictures has hired Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay to adapt Ennis’ anti-superhero comic, The Boys. Back in February, Elisabeth gave us the heads up that Columbia had picked up the property in the ’spirit’ of looking for some titles that could give Watchmen a run for their money on the topic of superhero subversion.
Originally published in 2006, The Boys was created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The story was “set in a contemporary world very much similar to real one, with one notable exception: a number of people have some form of superpower. The series follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as “the Boys”, whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them.”
