Jesse McCartney vs. Leona Lewis in ‘Bleeding Love’ Battle

July 31, 2008

The summer hit ‘Bleeding Love’ is being made hugely popular by new-comer Leona Lewis, though it was actually penned by fellow pop-stars Jesse McCartney and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic.

McCartney not only co-wrote the tune, but also recorded his own version, and the audio has recently been circulating around the web. Sans the slick pop production and club-ready beats of Lewis’ take, his original recording has a slow, stripped-down R&B vibe. Would McCartney’s version of ‘Bleeding Love’ be just as much of a smash on the charts as Leona Lewis’ take on it?

Britney Spears wants Sam Lutfi to stay the hell away

July 31, 2008

0201_sam_lufti_ucla_00.JPG Hey, remember this guy? Sam Lutfi a.k.a. Douchebeard McDrugYourDrinks. Well, it turns out the restraining order requiring him to stay 250 yards away from Britney Spears expires today. The order will not be renewed, but Britney’s lawyer issued the following public statement to Douchebeard letting him know what the fuck’s up. The AP reports:

“Britney has made clear to everyone that she does not want to be further harassed or contacted in any way by Osama ‘Sam’ Lutfi, now or at anytime in the future,” Spears’ attorney Samuel D. Ingham III stated in a statement to The Associated Press.
“During the temporary conservatorship, the conservators have the power to insure that Lutfi will not harm Britney anymore. If Mr. Lutfi makes any future attempt to contact Britney after the temporary conservatorship has concluded, Britney has made clear she’ll take all appropriate legal action.”

SDCC ‘08 Panel: ‘Terminator: Salvation’

This was one of the panels I was most looking forward to because I desperately wanted to walk away from it with even more good vibes than I already had. Though I still chuckled each time someone prefaced a question with “This is for McG …,” the guy definitely “brought it” to Comic Con. You could tell this dude really wanted to sell the audience; he wanted to sell them on another Terminator flick, he wanted to sell them on it being directed by a dude named McG and he wanted to bottle up his enormous energy and sell that too. The guy was amped up to a level just beneath “Okay this is uncomfortable,” and the panel audience was virtually high-fiving him the entire time.

CBS to remake Streets of San Francisco (oh please don’t ruin it)

Streets of San FranciscoThere was a time I was completely obsessed with The Streets of San Francisco. I never really watched it when it was on ABC in prime time, except for an episode here and there, but I used to watch it each day in the afternoon after school when a local station aired repeats. It was one of the highlights of the day for a while. It’s one of those solid 70s shows with a good cast and some interesting guest stars (Arnold Schwarzenegger as a weight lifter who kills people when they make fun of his size!).

CBS is going to remake the show, and I have the ability to only envision it’s going to be CSI: San Francisco. The beauty of these old shows was the cast, so I don’t know what you get by just taking the title and putting new actors in there. Hopefully they’ll keep the old theme song, and resist the urge to add rap lyrics to it. Read more

‘The Dark Knight’ Grabs Biggest Opening Ever!

July 31, 2008

Filed under: Action, Drama, Box Office, Comic/Superhero/Geek

Batman rushing to the box officeHoly cow, Batman! We knew it would be big, but The Dark Knight blew away all expectations, posting the biggest box office opening ever over the weekend. The film gobbled up more than $155 million, overtaking Spider-Man 3 for the crown, according to The Associated Press. The total is estimated to be $155.34 million, besting the previous high water mark of $151.1 million established by last year’s web-spinning superhero yarn.

The Dark Knight also broke Spider-Man 3’s IMAX record. The caped crusader already set a record for its opening day haul. One inflationary note was sounded by box office tracker Media By Numbers, which pointed out that ticket prices have risen from last year’s average of $6.88 to $7.08 this summer, so Spider-Man 3 may still have actually sold more tickets.

Ryan Seacrest gets bit by a shark, lives (C’MON!)

July 30, 2008

0729_ryan_seacrest_shark_00.jpg Ryan Seacrest apparently was bitten by a shark on Sunday while at the beach in Mexico. It must’ve been a little shark because Ryan barely even noticed and found the tooth later in his leg, according to Page Six:

“He didn’t know what it was for a minute - he thought it was a stick,” said one spy. “He had no time to be scared. He saw it swim away, he got out, took aspirin and called it a day.”
