Letterman speaks up for Leno

While NBC is carefully plotting Jay Leno’s exit from The Tonight Show, David Letterman is talking about staying on the CBS Late Show beyond 2010. And since the subject of Leno came up, Dave thinks the guys at NBC are nuts to treat Jay the way they are, especially since he’s done such a great job in the 11:30 slot. Letterman even stated he wants Jay on his show the day after his Tonight Show tenure ends.

Letterman, who was once the heir apparent to Johnny Carson’s desk but was passed over in favor of Leno, has thrived on CBS although he was crushed to lose The Tonight Show. The supposed feud between Letterman and Leno, and their competition for The Tonight Show, was depicted in the HBO film (and Bill Carter book) The Late Shift. Fan Rant: Entertainment Weekly’s Baffling Assertions

On page 11 of the current issue of Entertainment Weekly, next to an article about the Oscar race, there’s this brief item:

“Earning some of the harshest reviews of the year, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is officially the first Holocaust motion picture that won’t have a shot at winning an Oscar.”

Katy Perry plans to make out with a female celeb at the VMAs

There’s a difference between cheap, tawdry publicity stunts that are (pop) culturally significant and those that are just, well, cheap and tawdry. An example of the former is Madonna’s infamous VMA performance from 2003 in which she performed and locked lips with not only Christina Aguilera, but Britney Spears as well. An example of the latter would be basically anything involving Katy Perry.

if you’ve walked past a Television, into a retail store or gotten into a automobile this summer, chances are you’ve heard Katy Perry’s single, “I Kissed a Girl.” There’s an even more massive chance that if you just read that sentence, “I Kissed a Girl” is now going to be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Perry is performing that song during this year’s VMA telecast on September 7th, and if you haven’t already guessed, she’s looking for a girl to kiss. Read the story »
